Comeback Daniil Medvedev Wins First Championship in Over Two Years
19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, winning just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.
The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in especial - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with former trainer Gilles Cervara.
Presently working with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This represents the player's first championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court since that period of 2023.
Success also indicates the Russian has won 21 championships at 21 various events.
"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional the champion.
"This victory is in dedication of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
His defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on court had prompted observers to wonder if his skill to perform at the elite level was over.
But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and play positively, supported by an improved serving game.
Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the last five points to gain the advantage.
The competitors traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial professional victory, seized the initiative to create a decider.
The opponent rescued 4 initial break points in a competitive final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to close out the victory.
Appropriately, he clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to control a volley after a lengthy match.
